Silviculture

The preservation, maintenance and growth of the forest are at the heart of our business activities.
Our goal is to create healthy forests with a mix of tree species and a strong focus on the balance of the ecosystem.
The decision to prioritise quality over quantity, targeted felling and the maintenance, purification and thinning of our forests to maintain stable and productive trees and, subsequently, stands, enables us to produce high-quality timber that is valued in all of the timber supply chains we operate.
Each district is managed by a forester who is responsible for monitoring (including monitoring storm and pest damage) and supervising the forestry teams to implement the felling decided by the forestry administration with maximum efficiency. In our forestry activities, we combine the experience and technical expertise of our forestry teams with the best and most advanced technological solutions and state-of-the-art machinery.

.

We have always attached great importance to forest balance and the regeneration of wooded areas, which is why we plant around 25,000 new trees every year, while most of the area is left to natural reforestation.
Thanks to the recognised quality of our forests, we regularly harvest pine cones from spruce, silver fir and larch trees. The seeds obtained in this way are used either for cultivation in our reforestation areas or stored in the company's seed bank, or sold to leading forest nurseries.
To ensure the efficiency and functionality of our forestry operations, we have a network of forest roads covering approximately 350 km, which is regularly maintained and checked to ensure that it is also suitable for heavy company vehicles (lorries, tractors, etc.).

Hunting and Fishing

An essential component of proper forest management that takes biodiversity balance into account is wildlife control through sustainable and selective hunting, strictly regulated by Austrian law and supervised by the Forestry Department.
Fishing, both on privately owned waters and those under concession, is also managed with care and discipline in order to ensure the constant repopulation of our waters, with particular attention to the fish fauna of the area.
