The Foscari Widmann Rezzonico Forestry Estate is one of the largest forest properties in Austria.
The core of the estate developed in the Middle Ages around the market town of Paternion, an ancient administrative centre in the lower Drava valley.
Over time, the estate changed hands several times until, in 1629, it was assigned to the Widmann family, originally from Villach, who distinguished themselves for their entrepreneurial and financial skills and who, in the 17th century, also became a patrician family of the Republic of Venice.
During this historical period, mining was the main industry in the area, as there were rich deposits of various metals.
It was only later, as the mines became depleted, that the forest became even more central to the company's interests.
Over the centuries, forestry and the associated timber trade developed, making the company an important supplier to the Republic of Venice and providing timber for the construction of the Venetian fleet.
The current owners, the Foscari Widmann Rezzonico family, direct descendants of the Widman’s, guarantee continuity and respect for local traditions and culture thanks to this long journey, which consists of a passion for the forest and experience in the wide world of wood. continuity and respect for local traditions and culture, together with the constant application and development of the most modern and advanced methods in forest management, with a strong focus on respect for biodiversity and the most responsible methods for sustainable forestry.
Our local roots are expressed through our special attention to the history, culture and needs of local communities, making us active protagonists in this magnificent area.
