Certifications and Sustainability

Our forestry firm is a member of the most important national and regional trade associations, such as the Agricultural and Forestry Association and the Employers' Association.

We have the following certifications

PEC (since 1999)

PEFC Austria, based in Vienna, is a member of the umbrella organization PEFC International (PEFCC). Two-thirds of the world’s certified forest area is sustainably managed according to PEFC standards. In this way, PEFC offers by far the largest potential supply of wood from active and sustainable forest management.

PEFC (Programmes for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) is the leading global institution for the promotion, assurance, and marketing of active, sustainable, and climate-resilient forest management.

Wood and wood products bearing the PEFC label come from ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable forest management.

The organization develops the standards and procedures of the certification system for local forests as well as for the entire subsequent supply chain—i.e., for Chain of Custody companies based in Austria, such as sawmills, timber traders, carpentry shops, printing houses, toy manufacturers, etc.

In addition to managing certificates—on the one hand for participants in regional forest certification and on the other for those in the Chain of Custody (CoC)—PEFC Austria provides information to the public and grants the rights to use the PEFC label in Austria.

The objective is to preserve the forest with its many important functions for future generations, so that the forest’s functions of use, protection, well-being, and recreation remain intact for them as well. The PEFC concept therefore includes economic, ecological, and social aspects. Measures are based on the six criteria established by the Ministerial Conference in Helsinki (1993).

RED (Renewable Energy Directive / Erneuerbare-Energie-Richtlinie) sets binding targets by the EU for the share of renewable energy in energy consumption.
A range of materials, including biomass, is included. It also contains provisions for the sustainability of biomass (Regulation on Sustainable Forest Biomass – NFBioV) and the reduction of greenhouse gases (Regulation on the Sustainability of Energy from Biomass – BMEN-VO).
